About Sidecuts®.com

What is Sidecuts®.com?

Sidecuts®.com is the online store for Brown® Metals Company®. We provide small, high quality coils "as is" and sheets in stainless steel, steel, copper and other miscellaneous metals. The online store exists to provide an alternative method for our customers to obtain small quantity, high quality materials quickly. All orders are processed at Brown® Metals Company® in accordance with Brown Metals Company's Quality Management System procedures. For larger inquiries, items that require slitting or edge conditioning, or items that require custom sizes or tolerances, please contact Brown® Metals Company® directly.

Product photos are for design purposes and do not necessarily represent the actual product being offered. Please review the items details carefully before ordering a product. Please contact us with any questions.  

What kind of materials are sold on Sidecuts®.com?

Coils sold on Sidecuts®.com are non precision (± 1/8" width tolerance) remnants. Sidecuts® are "drops" generated from prime stock during everyday processing activities at Brown Metals Company. They are ideal for small jobs that may include: prototypes, cutting, stamping, welding, forming, and machining applications. If your application requires precision widths, specific camber or width tolerances, or any other special requirements, please contact Brown Metals Company directly. All coils sold on Sidecuts®.com are sold in the "as is" condition.

Sheets sold on Sidecuts®.com are generated from prime stock. Width and length tolerances for cut sheets are ± 1/8". Custom sizes or tolerances are not available on Sidecuts®.com. If your application requires tighter tolerances or custom sizes, please contact Brown Metals Company directly. All sheets sold on Sidecuts®.com are sold in the "as is" condition.

Are items listed on Sidecuts®.com in stock?

All items listed on Sidecuts®.com are in stock. We make every effort to ensure the website is up-to-date and accurate. However, the inventory changes regularly as orders are processed by Brown Metals Company. On occasion, we do use an item that's listed on Sidecuts®.com before it can be updated on the web site. If an item you've purchased is not available, someone from Sidecuts®.com / Brown® Metals Company® will contact you promptly to discuss other options. In most instances, we're able to provide an alternative size that works for our customers.

How much do coils cost on Sidecuts®.com?

Coil pricing is based on the net weight of the coil as listed in the table below. Sheet pricing varies depending on several dimensional variables. Please see each detail page for specifics about the sheet item you're interested in.

What is the Sidecuts®.com Shipping Policy?

Sidecuts®.com currently ships to locations within the United States and Canada within 1-2 Business Days. All items are shipped from Rancho Cucamonga, CA 91730. For international orders other than Canada, please contact Brown Metals Company directly.

Sidecuts®.com uses UPS and FedEx** Prepaid & Add for all shipments to locations within the United States and Canada. All orders are shipped from Rancho Cucamonga, CA 91730 (FOB: Shipping Point). Customers may choose from several different UPS and FedEx services during checkout including GROUND, 1 Day, 2 Day and 3 Day service options.

Instead of a username and password, you'll use your email address and a one-time code to login. If you have ordered from Sidecuts®.com in the past, your email address should already be in our system.

Sidecuts®.com just moved to a new platform. We are currently developing more detailed instructions to help our customers. How do I easily add a Certificate of Test / Conformance for the item I'd like to purchase?

Adding a customized Certificate of Test / Conformance can be accomplished following these easy steps. 

Once you have found the item you'd like to purchase:

  1. Select from a list of available item options
  2. Select the Quantity
  3. Click Add to Cart
  4. Scroll down to the "Certificate of Test / Conformance" button and click
  5. Select "A New Sidecuts®.com Order" from the list
  6. Click Add to Cart

How do I reference a Purchase Order Number on my Sidecuts®.com order?

Purchase Order Numbers can be entered during Checkout in the "Additional Info" section.

When will my order arrive?

Sidecuts®.com orders are shipped within 1 to 2 business days from Rancho Cucamonga, CA 91730. Most orders ship the same day if ordered before 11:00 AM Pacific Time. UPS and Fed Ex Ground shipments usually arrive in 5-6 business days after shipping. When your order ships, a tracking number is emailed to the email address associated with the order so that the order can be tracked the entire way.

Can I track my order?

Yes, you can track your order. Sidecuts®.com will email a tracking number for your order once leaves our warehouse. You should be able to click the tracking number in the email and go directly to the carrier's website for immediate tracking. Or, you can track your shipment directly with the carrier.

How do I change or cancel my order?

Sidecuts®.com orders are processed quickly. If you ordered the wrong item, want to change the routing, or just changed your mind, give us a call immediately at (909) 484-3124, Option 3. As long as your order hasn't shipped, we should be able to help.

Why can't I find an item I purchased on Sidceuts®.com previously?

If you've purchased an item in the past, but can not find the item on Sidecuts®.com on your return visit, please contact Brown® Metals Company® directly.

Technical Info

Where can I obtain technical information about your products including mechanical and chemical properties?

Please view our Technical Information page to view typical property values for items on Sidecuts®.com. This incudes tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, applicable specifications and typical chemistry values and ranges.

Is stainless steel magnetic?

Many stainless steels can be magnetized. In general, 300 series stainless steels are nonmagnetic and cannot be magnetized. However, as 300 series stainless steels are cold worked (tempered - quarter hard, half hard, full hard), they can develop some degree of magnetism. The more severely it is cold worked, the higher degree of magnetism the material will have. Of the items offered on Sidecuts®.com, 1008 / 1010 and 17-7PH® Condition "C" would be considered magnetic. 17-7PH® Annealed is not magnetic.

What does the "L" stand for in some of the alloys, like 304L or 316L?

The "L" in these grades means these are lower carbon (C) versions of the standard alloy. Often times, if an application calls for 304 or 316, 304L or 316L can be used interchangeably. An "L" grade is not less corrosion resistant than the standard grade; however, in applications that require welding, the "L" grade is often preferred because it may prevent weld corrosion. At Sidecuts®.com, alloy 316 / 316L is purchased to meet both the standard 316 alloy as well as the 316L alloy. Our 304L items are triple certified to meet alloys 304L, 304 and 302. 

What are the different types of finishes that products sold on Sidecuts®.com have?

Quality & Compliance

Does Sidecuts®.com offer Certifications / Test Reports?

Yes, every item comes with a copy of the original Mill Test Report (MTR). A custom Certificate of Test / Conformance that provides extended traceability and full chain of custody is also available for purchase. Please visit our Certifications page for more information and to view samples of these documents.

Are the items on Sidecuts®.com domestically melted and rolled?

Yes! Almost all of the stainless steel items on Sidecuts®.com are melted and rolled in the United States making them compliant with DFARS Section 252.225-7008 and 252.225-7009 for Specialty Metals. While not defined as a "Specialty Steel" according to DFARS, our steel items are also melted and rolled in the United States. A Mill Test Report (MTR) citing the melt and rolling locations is provided with each item. A customized Certificate of Test / Conformance can also be added to extend traceability and full chain of custody.

Exceptions:

  • Some of our Type 430 items may not be melted in the USA. Please contact us to verify melt country of origin if DFARS is required.
  • Beryllium Copper items found on Sidecuts®.com are melted in Japan, a DFARS Qualifying Country, and rolled in the United States. These items are also DFARS, RoHS, and REACH compliant. 

Are items sold on Sidecuts®.com DFARS, REACH and RoHS Compliant?

Yes!  All items sold on Sidecuts®.com meet domestic and international compliance requirements unless specifically noted in the Quality Notes section of the product offering. Compliance documents addressing DFARS, REACH, RoHS,Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) and more are available for download in PDF format. Documents supporting compliance can be found at www.brownmetals.com/compliance.

Does Sidecuts®.com offer Quality/Supplier Survey?

Sidecuts®.com is a self service web store taking advantage of automation so that items can be offered at a great value. To keep prices as low as possible, we do not complete Quality/Supplier Surveys. However, we do offer a Quality Survey Response letter on our compliance page located at www.brownmetals.com/compliance. Our Quality Survey Response letter provides answers to the most commonly asked questions on Quality/Supplier Surveys.

Payment, Invoice & W-9

What payment methods do you accept?

Sidecuts®.com accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover. Unfortunately, we do not currently offer account based terms for Sidecuts®.com orders.

 

How do I obtain a copy of an Invoice from Sidecuts®.com?

Invoices for orders placed on Sidecuts®.com are accessible several different ways. 

Immediately after an order is placed, click the "View/Save Your Invoice" button on the order confirmation page. 

From the email confirmation received for your order, click on the "View/Save Your Invoice" button within the email. 

From your Account Page, click on Orders > click the desired order > click the "View/Save Invoice" button

 

A copy of the Invoice is emailed along with the Packing List, Bill of Lading, and Certificates of Test when your order ships.

How can I obtain IRS Form W-9?

If you require IRS Form W-9 to make a purchase from Brown® Metals Company® via our Sidecuts®.com online store, you may obtain that form by clicking here.

Sales Tax

Why was I charged Sales Tax on my order?

All orders shipping to addresses within California will be charged sales tax using the SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY tax rate. If you have a California Resale number, and your order should not be taxable, please enter your resale number in the California Resale Number text box during checkout. Sales Tax will be refunded for those providing a resale number. Your account will then be flagged as "Tax Free" so that Sales Tax will not be charged on future orders.

NOTE: If you have multiple accounts (several registered users using different email addresses) from your company, each account will need to be flagged as Tax Free to prevent tax from being charged.

Do I need to enter my resale number every time? What if I entered it on your old Sidecuts®.com site?

Once your resale number is provided, we will mark your account as tax free. Sales tax should not be collected moving forward. For those customers that provided their resale number using our old site, your account was imported into the new site so those settings should be retained. You should not have to provide your resale number again. 

Returns

What is the Sidecuts®.com Return Policy?

All items are sold in the "as is" condition. Any discrepancies with your order must be reported to Sidecuts®.com within the first 10 days after receiving your order. Return requests may be made by contacting Brown® Metals Company® directly. Authorization MUST be granted prior to acceptance of any returns. Restocking fees of up to 30% may apply. Freight charges are not refundable.

Transactions on the Sidecuts®.com website are transmitted using Secure Socket Layers (SSL) 256-bit encryption technology. This helps protect your personal and credit card information from misuse. Our store vendor is also Level 1 PCI DSS compliant.
