Why is your material listed as 304L / 304 / 302 or 316 / 316L?
Most of the stainless we stock is multi-certified as 304L / 304 / 302. That is not three different products — it is one piece of material whose mill-certified chemistry falls inside the limits of all three alloys at the same time.
We buy to an overlapping (“dual” or “triple”) chemistry: the carbon is held down to the 304L maximum, while the chromium and nickel are aimed at the narrow band where the 304L, 304 and 302 ranges intersect. Because every element lands inside all three windows, the mill can certify the same coil to AMS 5511 (304L), AMS 5513 (304) and AMS 5516 (302), as well as ASTM A240 and ASTM A666.
